This Sharp GF 767 is the holy grail of boomboxes. It was designed in 1982 to drown out all other boomboxes on the street. It is renowned not for its volume, but for its ability to ‘throw’ sound
While we were filming this, a man with a hoarse echoey voice was standing in the pulpit reading gospel to a seated congregation of three. They were taking turns to read. 24 hours a day. To mark the 500th anniversary of the king James Bible and its impact on literacy and the English language. They will read until it's finished. I recorded some, but decided not to use it.
G tells me about one time when he was in the toilets at Curzon Soho cinema. He wasn't looking for anything this time, but he became aware that the person in the next cubicle was wanking. I asked him how he knew. Oh, he says, I could see the reflection in the floor. He says it happens quite often.
Pioneering telephotography in the 1930’s provided the first record of the Abbey’s ceiling. The details on the bosses were seen close up for the first time. In 1539 the Benedictine monks surrendered the abbey to the Reformation. The iconoclasts would have destroyed the ceiling if they could. It only survived because it was too high up to reach.
TC always wears bright techno colours. But he is famous for his monochrome flicker film.
IW doesn't realise she's being filmed. She’s wandering around outside, squinting into the Sun. She wears a black and white hooded sweatshirt. It has a monogram on the chest: two figures of indeterminable gender. Sitting back to back. The mirror each other. The figure on the right has one leg raised slightly higher than the other. KAPPA, it says. Now she turns to go inside. The jeans say pepe.
Our gayness is unspoken between us, me and KS, as we push and pull at either end of the tea trolley in 1993. We are care assistant at Inchmarlow Nursing Home. We are 19. He has ginger hair like me but slightly darker, and the same pale lashes. Our sky blue polyester uniforms hang stiffly on our bodies. Main buttons all the way up the middle. His, being the male uniform, buttons at the side. The torso fastening doubles back on itself.
On weekends, I danced in Aberdeen to Detroit techno. Intelligent techno. And minimalist. Everyone facing the same direction. Middle partings, white denim, snowball ecstasy. Each track moving like one crashing wave into the next. But I had to take a step backwards musically to take a step forwards in another way, so I went with KS and his friend to an old-school gay club down by the port. It felt good but I wasn’t used to music which wasn't seamless. Here, each song was a separate unit.
These words are looping. KK will turn this tape over when it finishes.The same thing is on the other side. It's a double cassette deck. And when the tape is done, he will press play on the next one. It's a copy of this one.

A figure sit on a pine single bed. The figure is facing forward, top half severed and concealed by the top of the frame. Only the legs are visible; black tracksuit trousers with the black and white Adidas stripe down the side of each leg. On the feet are a pair of brand new white Nike trainers. The legs swing lightly in small circles. After 18 seconds a second figure walks into the frame from the right. This figure is wearing the same trainers, but with white tracksuit trousers elasticated at the ankles. White sits on the bed beside black. There is some subtle footplay between the two, which continues until 1.28 when the black’s left trainer is removed using the feet of both figures. White presses down on the shoe with his foot then slides it, with its trainer on, into the empty trainer. Black presses his socked foot against White’s trainer before eventually sliding the trainer off with his foot. White now slides the extra trainer off his foot. There are now two empty trainers on the floor in front of them. Using their feet, they both slide the two trainers round so they face the same direction, press them with their feet, and then slide their feet back into the alternate trainers. Everything appears as it did at the start except that they are now wearing one of each others trainers. They both stand up side by side facing the camera, before turning to face each other. White slides his feet between Black's feet. Black then presses his right trainer down onto White’s left trainer. They both then walk slowly backward, exiting either side of the frame.
